SEMINAR
No-Stop City
Revisited

Summer Semester 2025
Technische Universität Berlin
Instructor: Liang Song

This seminar revisits the imaginative, ubiquitous, ironic, yet highly critical project of Archizoom - the No-Stop City. What if it already exists, seamlessly embedded in our everyday reality? What if we are already its residents, whether voluntarily or involuntarily? This seminar embarks on an experimental journey at the intersection of imagination and reality, abstraction and the tangible.

We will also explore new urban functions which can deepen the critical reading of Archizoom’s work by confronting it with contemporary urban dynamics and societal needs, revealing new tensions and opportunities for interpretation.

The Seminar consists of two phases.

Phase 1 - Field Research:
In the first phase of the seminar, we investigate a selected urban function, such as agriculture, logistics, or cultural facilities, through field research in Berlin. Using methods like site visits, photography, mapping, and observation, each group documents how this function operates within the city’s everyday fabric. The goal is to uncover spatial patterns, social dynamics, and contradictions that will later inform speculative architectural work.

Phase 2 - Constructing Scenarios:
Building on the field research, we reimagine the chosen urban functions within the speculative framework of Archizoom’s No-Stop City. Each group develops a scenario expressed through photomontages, abstract architectural drawings in Archizoom’s visual language, and short critical texts. These speculative proposals challenge or exaggerate the logic of infinite urbanism and consumerism, culminating in a collective vision of a contemporary No-Stop City.
