RESEARCH & TEACHING
Atlas of Making
at Department Making Matters
Technische Universität Berlin
In today’s age of industrialization, globalization and digitalization,
we often interact with our environment without truly understanding how the things around us are sourced, produced, or assembled. The act of making with our own hands has become a rare
and valuable experience, reminding us that we are not only deeply
connected to the things we create but also to the process of crea-
tion itself. In this process of making, our hands serve as teachers,
guiding us to think, learn, synthesize, and eventually “unlearn”,
liberating our minds.
This research initiative focuses on ‘making’ as a method, incorporating different research and teaching fomats - winter school, workshop, field research and theoretical sessions, in order to explore how ‘making’ is deeply connected to local products, resources, customs, architecture, social relations and everyday life.
